When I join an AutoRoom Source, I’m not moved to a new AutoRoom. Why? #
There is a rate limit to how many AutoRooms can be created by a user. If they hit this limit, AutoRoom will try to send them a DM explaining this.
Another reason could be that the permissions on either the AutoRoom Source or destination category are not sufficient for AutoRoom to work properly. A Server Manager can use the /list command to check if there are any permission issues with the AutoRoom Source.
Does AutoRoom really need that permission? #
Yes. AutoRoom was designed to use as few permissions as possible, which is why the list is short compared to other apps.
But like, does it REALLY need that permission? #
Technically, AutoRoom only needs one permission at the server level: Manage Roles. The rest of the permissions are only needed on the AutoRoom Source and/or the destination category. AutoRoom will warn the user if it is missing any permissions, and these missing permissions will also be listed in the /list command.
Still, it is much easier to just give AutoRoom all the permissions it asks for server wide, in case some update changes what permissions are required on source/destination.
Why should I use AutoRoom if this other app can do what AutoRoom does and more? #
With AutoRoom, the app and it’s code are focused on providing one service and doing it extremely well. With more general apps, development time and event processing time need to be split amongst all of it’s different features. This could lead to delays in either making new features or on the app reacting to voice channel events.
